U 17 Silver High Wycombe, 2 January 2010

U 17 Silver High Wycombe, 2 January 2010

At yesterday’s U 17 silver tournament at High Wycombe, Kieran Gibbons won his box, which included a newly upgraded grade 2 player, Sarinda Wijetunge from Surrey. His scores were: v Stuart Holden, 16 – 18, 15 – 7, 15 – 3; and against Sarinda, 17 – 15, 15 – 8.  This should mean that Kieran will be upgraded to a grade 2 at the next gradings round. He went on to play a newly upgraded grade 1 player, Rory Kitchen, who he lost to, but had a very good game against, loosing 8 – 15, 10 – 15. All in all Kieran was very pleased with his performance.

Dennis Perry had a tough box. He lost in two games to Toby Harland and also lost to Rob Golding from Essex, at which point he withdrew rather than waiting to play his final box game against Greg Mairs. (It was a very long day, with waits in the afternoon of around three hours between the second and third singles games, so it was probably a good call). Dennis got through his doubles box playing with Tom Hogan from Warwickshire, loosing to finalists, Greg Mairs and Robert Spink, in the knockout round.

Harry Burgess had a good day. He and Kieran won one game in their doubles box, against the Sussex pair of Bracuti and Burton, 15 – 13, 15 – 11; however, they had the finalists in their box, Mairs and Spink, loosing, 7 – 15, 9 – 15, and Toby Harland and George Heinemann, (Surrey), 10 – 15, 11 – 15, so it wasn’t any easy draw. Not fully sure how he did in the singles, as I was beginning to lose the will to live and forgot to fill in the programme by about half way through the afternoon.
