Avon v Hampshire u15s shires

Written by: Jayne

We knew that this was going to be a very tough match for the u15s, but what a fantastic match it was.

Team:
Anna Manley                     Henley Ngan
Saskia Manson                   Brendan Foreman
Jess Hopton                      Peter Wrigglesworth
Megan Foreman                 Luke Joyner

Avon took a long time to warm up loosing all the mixed. Megan and Luke did well to take their first game to 16 well done to them.

On to the singles, Hampshire have four grade one players so Avon was in for a tough battle. Henley, Brendan and Peter had excellent games with Peter and Henley taking both theirs to 3 and just being piped in the final points. Jess had a great singles game against Vicky Williams who is ranked no 1 at u15 just loosing in 3 tight games. Anna played the best singles game I've seen her play this season taking Sarah (a grade one) 15/21 21/23 excellent play Anna.

Level doubles was slightly more one sided with most pairs loosing in two games. Peter and Luke did very well to take Hampshire 2nd pair to 3 games well done to both of you. Anna and Saskia battled well taking one game to 19/21 Jess and Megan did very well to loose 13/21 13/21 to the very strong hampshire no1 pair.

Although Avon did not win a match, many went to 3 games and the players never gave up. Many games were very close and comments from Hampshire about how exciting the match was and the excellent standard of the games.

Most notable players of the match Anna for her excellent singles game and Peter for not giving up the fight in his singles and doubles play. The team as always played with great spirit and we were very proud of you all. Many thanks to Megan for playing up and proving so talented in a very tough match.
Thanks as always to the parents for their support.
